Miami Open Tennis Championship Photography 2015

After taking the red eye from LA to Miami and arriving at 7 am in the morning, I headed straight to Crandon Park, in an attempt to fight off the fatigue that was inevitably going to take over my day. It was all happening on Key Biscane and the new colours of sponsors Itau made the tired Crandon Park complex look almost new. I always stay with very old and dear friends in Miami, so it is one of my favourite tournaments, because it is such fun, on court and off. This year was no exception! Miami always claims to be the fifth Grand Slam and this year’s tournament certainly lived up to that claim. There were outstanding fields for both the mens and women’s trophies and apart from a few dull days in the middle of the tournament, it was hot and humid every day, with lots of awesome sunsets and beautiful late afternoon light. Ray and I spent nearly every afternoon shooting from high up in the stands to maximise the long shadows and soft light and overall, we were both very pleased with the results from the two weeks. Williams stomped on all the competition to wins the women’s event and Novak Djokovic was outstanding against Andy Murray in the men’s final. After two incredible sets, the Scot ran out of steam and Novak ran away with the match, but up until that point there were great pictures galore. As well as the usual beach shots that followed the finals, it is worth noting that Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the women’s doubles at both Indian Wells and Miami in their first two tournaments playing together. Very impressive and I am sure we will see lots more of the winning in 2015. Novak won the first two ATP 1000 tournaments of the year and it looks like this could be his year. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his winning streak in the clay, I have a feeling he will. Novak is always decent to us snappers and always gives us the time to get a good photo, so I am happy for him to keep winning. After saying that, Roger, Rafa and Andy are all pretty good too. They are professionals and know what we need. I am heading back to Australia now for a few weeks, before heading to Europe for the business end of the clay court season and Ray is going straight to Monte Carlo to shoot the first clay court tournament of the season.
